Yesterday the IRS issued IRS News Release 2015-99, an update to warn taxpayers about new and improved ways scammers are threatening and fleecing taxpayers fraudulently. We wanted to take this minute to emphasize to everyone that the IRS does not email you, rarely do they call you and they never demand immediate payment, threaten to bring law enforcement to arrest you, or ask for your credit/debit card information. Unfortunately we have had heard of numerous local cases of people being contacted by scammers and the stories are very scary as the calls/emails are very forceful and frightening. But they are not real, do not return the voice mails left by the scammers or engage in conversations or emails with them, if you are uncomfortable simply ignoring them please contact your tax advisor or other trusted source to discuss.
