Baltimore, Md- Ellin & Tucker, the Baltimore-based public accounting and business consulting firm, announced today that Chris Rosenthal, a director in the firm’s Forensic and Valuation Services Group, has been elected Business Valuation Discipline Governor of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA), a multi-discipline, non-profit international organization of professional appraisers. In his new role, Rosenthal will be responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of the business valuation discipline, including representing ASA members who are business appraisers, providing managerial oversight for ASA and interacting with other elected officials from ASA. He will serve a term of four years.
“This is a pivotal time for the business valuation industry. Between the industry consolidation, increased government regulations, and push to standardize qualifications for appraisers, the next few years are going to be formative for the profession,” said Rosenthal. “I am excited to be in this leadership position within ASA and look forward to working with my peers as we attempt to set our industry up for self-regulation and shape the future of our profession.”
Rosenthal joined ASA in 1990, earned the Accredited Senior Appraiser designation in 1995, and has since been an active leader in both the Maryland and Washington D.C. chapters, serving as chair of the Political Action Committee, a member of the Government Relations Committee, and a member the International Board of Examiners.
A director at Ellin & Tucker, Rosenthal is responsible for hundreds of domestic and international commercial damage and valuation engagements throughout the United States, Europe, South America and the Middle East. Over the course of his 30-year career, he has performed valuations in connection with shareholder disputes, mergers and acquisitions, estate and gift matters, financial reporting (ASC 805, 350 and 360), equity-based (ASC 718) compensation plans (stock options, restricted stock units, stock appreciation rights), fairness opinions, insurance claims, intellectual property, bankruptcy, and domestic disputes. He has testified as a valuation and financial expert more than 100 times in federal, state and international courts.
Rosenthal has held a number of notable industry positions, including past chair of the Forensic and Valuation Services Committee of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants, past chair of the Appraisal Foundation Advisory Council, past president of the Association for Corporate Growth, and past president of the Baltimore Estate Planning Council.
