Baltimore, MD — Ellin & Tucker, the Baltimore-based public accounting and business consulting firm, announced today that its managing director, Edwin Brake, has been appointed to Betamore’s newly-formed advisory board – a group of more than 50 well-established business leaders who will help the award-winning Federal Hill-based nonprofit incubator achieve its mission to make Baltimore a leading global entrepreneurship destination. As an advisory board member, Brake will provide resources and counsel to Betamore, to help its members build their businesses.
Made up of investors, educators, business executives and experienced entrepreneurs, advisory board members will be focused on four critical areas: attracting and developing talent, breaking silos, providing context and knowledge and building actionable networks.
“We have an opportunity to cultivate our burgeoning tech community and set Baltimore on a path to become a hub for entrepreneurship. But to do that, we need to invest in our millennial entrepreneurs and give them the tools and guidance they need to succeed,” said Brake. “The next generation is the key to Baltimore’s economic sustainability, and I look forward to working alongside my fellow board members to help catapult the growth of our tech sector.”
In his 25-year tenure as managing director of Ellin & Tucker, Brake has led the firm to more than double its business portfolio, expand its workforce and position Ellin & Tucker as the fifth largest CPA firm in Greater Baltimore. Brake is focused on cultivating the millennial talent at Ellin & Tucker and positioning the firm as a cornerstone of the Baltimore community. Most recently, he relocated the firm to 400 E. Pratt Street as part of a larger open-space plan developed by the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore and supported by Baltimore City and the Baltimore Development Corporation to rejuvenate the downtown area.
An active leader in Greater Baltimore, Brake has served in a number of key community development positions including board of directors, executive committee member and past chairperson of the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore; chairperson of the Maryland Zoological Society’s board of trustees; and chairperson of the BB&T Baltimore City Advisory Board.
