Baltimore, Md- Ellin & Tucker, the Baltimore-based public accounting and business consulting firm, announced today that Aileen Eskildsen, CPA, a director and professional development coordinator with the firm, has won the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA) Women to Watch award in the “Emerging Leader” category. The first annual award ceremony was held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at The Hotel at Arundel Preserve.

“I am truly honored to be recognized as a woman to watch alongside such talented women,” said Eskildsen. “This award serves as an opportunity to not only celebrate the accomplishments of female accountants, but also a platform to encourage and empower the next generation of women leaders.”

Established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Women to Watch award highlights the accomplishments of women in the CPA profession in one of two categories: “Emerging Leaders” and “Experienced Leaders.” The award is meant to serve as a starting point for the MACPA board-appointed Women’s and Diversity Initiative Task Force, which will spark conversations about issues and provide resources for member firms and companies.

Edwin Brake, managing director of Ellin & Tucker said, “There is a great deal to learn from Aileen’s professional and personal accomplishments. Her enthusiasm and commitment to increasing the presence of female leadership in a predominantly male-driven profession is contagious and will no doubt continue to inspire change within our industry.”

Eskildsen’s interest in promoting females extends beyond the accounting profession, and into the community at large. She is an active member of Network2000, a Baltimore-based, invitation-only organization dedicated to championing and promoting the advancement of women within their chosen fields; she serves on advisory boards at both Towson University and Loyola University; she helped form and actively participates in The Legacy School’s board of trustees; and she serves as the board treasurer of her homeowners association.

In 2008, Eskildsen established and created the role of professional development coordinator, which oversees the career development of Ellin & Tucker’s professionals. She also oversees the firm’s recruiting committee, which focuses on recruiting accounting professionals from area universities. Eskildsen earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Towson University.
