Maryland to Roll Out Final Stages of Maryland Tax Connect

Maryland is undertaking its most significant tax system modernization effort in more than 30 years. Beginning September 1, 2026, Maryland Tax Connect will be available to individuals, pass-through entities, trusts, and estates. This expansion builds on the platform already used by payroll withholding and sales and use tax filers, extending its benefits to all Maryland taxpayers.
Maryland Tax Connect is a secure self-service portal that allows taxpayers to interact directly with the Comptroller’s Office. Through the portal, taxpayers can file returns, make payments, view filing history and account balances, access notices, track refunds, and communicate with the Comptroller’s Office all online, 24/7, and at no cost.
The Comptroller’s Office describes the new system as faster, simpler, and more secure than the legacy platforms it replaces. Taxpayers will have access to real-time account information and enhanced security features, creating a more transparent and efficient experience.
A project of this scale comes with challenges, as decades of tax data must be migrated from legacy systems to a cloud-based platform. To help taxpayers prepare, the Comptroller’s Office has published a timeline highlighting key dates during the transition period.

The Comptroller’s Office has also created an Individual Tax Hub with updates, resources, and answers to frequently asked questions. We encourage taxpayers to review these materials and keep the following points in mind:
Maryland Tax Connect represents a major step forward in how taxpayers interact with the state. As always, we are here to help you navigate the transition and make the most of the new system’s capabilities.
