Ellin & Tucker’s Giving Back Committee is proud to support a wide range of not-for-profits in the Greater Baltimore Community by volunteering our time, donating funds, or as done at our most recent event, helping our team better understand complex and pressing issues facing the community. We recognize the power of education and how vital it is to familiarize ourselves, and in turn, others, on the challenges impacting our community, such as intimate partner violence (IPV).

In June of 2022, our Giving Back Committee partnered with House of Ruth Maryland to host an educational session for the Ellin & Tucker team, focused on IPV. House of Ruth Maryland is one of the nation’s leading IPV centers and since 1977, the local not-for-profit has been providing survivors with the services necessary to rebuild their lives safely and free of fear. The session began with a personal story from an intimate IPV survivor as a part of the House of Ruth Maryland’s Storytellers program. Through the use of storytelling and poetry, the speaker shared an experience with the team that was deeply moving and provided our group with meaningful insight into this issue.

For the second half of the session, a member of the House of Ruth Maryland training institute discussed the definition of IPV, the different forms it can take, how to support survivors, and more. Knowledge can be extremely powerful, and the more our team knows about IPV, the more we can do to help those who may be suffering in silence. Our team left the training session not only better informed but inspired by all that House of Ruth Maryland does for survivors.

Equipped with a deeper understanding of IPV, the Giving Back Committee hosted a month-long donation drive where they collected essential items for House of Ruth Maryland- items that survivors and their children are forced to leave behind when they escape their abusers and support the survivors on their path toward safety and independence. The E&T team also hosted a fundraiser benefiting House of Ruth Maryland in tandem with the donation drive.

We would like to thank House of Ruth Maryland for taking the time to educate our team on this important issue that impacts so many people and for the incredible work they do in our community, working to bring an end to IPV.
