Ellin & Tucker, the Baltimore-based public accounting and business consulting firm, announced today that Stephanie McGuire, CPA, principal at the firm, has been appointed to the Board of Directors for Abilities Network — a non-profit organization that assists individuals with disabilities in Maryland to achieve their personal goals and reach their maximum potential. As a member of the board, McGuire will assist with increasing overall awareness of the organization’s program services and expand fundraising programs to increase overall support for their programs.
McGuire became involved with Abilities Network after shadowing two of its programs: Project ACT, which provides support to children who do not have access to quality learning services and opportunities; and the Employment Services program, which provides individualized support in identifying and securing competitive employment within an individual’s community. But it is McGuire’s personal connection to epilepsy that initially drew her to the organization.
“The work that Abilities Network does in the community — particularly to support people and families with epilepsy —hits close to home. I have close friends who either have or are caring for a family member who has epilepsy,” she said. “There are so many families living with disabilities that don’t have access to the resources they need to live their best lives. Abilities Network’s inclusive programs and dedicated staff are doing amazing work to support children, adults and seniors in need, and I am excited to help the organization further its mission.”
A seasoned professional who has been with Ellin & Tucker for 13 years, McGuire is a leader in the firm’s quality control standards department, which provides the latest accounting pronouncements and standards updates to professionals in the firm. In addition to her quality control expertise, McGuire provides services for numerous clients in the not-for-profit, manufacturing, wholesale distribution and construction industries. She is a member of the audit and accounting technical standards committee, which develops programs to enhance the professional staff’s understanding of current accounting and financial reporting standards.
McGuire is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; Maryland Associated of Certified Public Accountants; University of Baltimore Accounting Advisory Board; and Woodland Run Annex Homeowners Association, where she serves as treasurer.
