Baltimore, Md. – Ellin & Tucker, the Baltimore-based public accounting and business consulting firm, announced today that Aileen Eskildsen, CPA, director and professional development coordinator at the firm, was appointed by Governor Larry Hogan to the Maryland Legal Services Corporation’s (MLSC) nine-member board of directors. As a board member, Eskildsen will represent Baltimore County, working to raise funds and make grants to nonprofit organizations for the provision of civil legal assistance to low-income persons in Maryland. She will serve a three-year term.

“At the core of Ellin & Tucker is our commitment to the Greater Baltimore community — Aileen exemplifies that commitment everyday through her board memberships, her student mentorship programs and her internal work at the firm,” said Ed Brake, managing director at Ellin & Tucker. “I have no doubt that she will be a valuable addition to the MLSC board.”

Eskildsen has a proven history of leadership in the community. In 2009, she provided the guidance and mentorship necessary for a group of young leaders at Ellin & Tucker to develop the firm’s award-winning Giving Back Committee, an internal group dedicated to donating time and energy to philanthropic initiatives throughout Maryland. Under her oversight, the Giving Back Committee has supported more than 40 different charitable organizations. In 2014, Eskildsen was invited to join Executive Alliance, a Baltimore-based, invitation-only nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the advancement of women in professional and executive positions. She also mentors college students at Towson University and Loyola University who are studying to become CPAs.

“As a resident of the Greater Baltimore area, improving the lives of my fellow neighbors is a passion of mine,” said Eskildsen. “I am honored that Governor Hogan saw that passion and appointed me to MLSC’s board of directors. I strongly believe in MLSC’s mission and look forward to making a positive impact on the Maryland community.”

MLSC was established by the Maryland General Assembly in 1982 to receive and distribute funds to nonprofit organizations that provide civil legal assistance to low-income persons. From its inception, MLSC has made grants totaling over $260 million to help provide services in more than 2.7 million legal matters for Maryland’s families in areas of family, housing, consumer, employment, health care and other civil legal issues impacting basic human needs. MLSC is governed by a nine-person board of directors appointed by the Governor of Maryland and confirmed by the Maryland Senate. To learn more about MLSC, visit www.mlsc.org.
